Change to Reassessment Policy
During Back to School Night, I told all of you who attended that should a
student score less than 75% on any assessment they will be allowed to re-take
it one time. I sought guidance from my peers and supervisors for a way to
make sure that this grading policy is fair, equitable, and most importantly
available to all students. Based upon these discussions and their
recommendations, the following modification will be made.
Beginning with the 2nd marking period, all students will have the
opportunity to improve their grades as well as mastery of the lessons. Prior
to the students being allowed to re-take the test, they will be required to
complete an activity (worksheet, extra help, etc.) that focuses on their
individual area of need. Once the student completes the activity and all
questions have been answered, they will be allowed to retest. The final
grade will be an average of the two assessments. For example, Student “A”
earns a 65 on an assessment. After the reassessment, their score is 95. The
scores will be combined, then averaged. As a result, 80 will be their final
score.
