In my second grade classroom, the students will be exposed to many different
technology skills. Power Point Presentations will be used to introduce new
topics using a laptop and projector. The students will be given many
opportunities to listen to books on tape in the Listening Center. In
addition, school-wide laptops will be available for student use in the
classroom on a rotating basis as needed for research and/or publishing.
We now have a wonderful new addition to our Techonology tools called a MIMIO
which is a portable tool that turns ANY whiteboard into a SMARTBOARD!
Smartboards can be used to engage students in learning through use of a hands
on approach to teaching. This smartboard is interactive which means students
do not just SEE a power point or a website on the big screen, but can write on
it, move items around and actually play educational games and activities on
this LARGE screen! If you want to see it in action, let me know and you can
visit during a time when we are using it!
The Internet may be used in order to find the answers to questions we ask during
lessons. This will be a teacher directed activity and may take place in the
classroom, computer lab or on the laptops. Students will be reminded how to
log onto a website as well as Internet Safety. The Internet is a valuable
resource and the children will get experience that is supervised and
appropriate for their age and understanding.
In addition, the students will review the basic operation of our MAC computers
and it's operating systems. Students will be exposed to Microsoft Windows
and it's software such as Microsoft Word, KidPix, and many other educational
software programs.
