I graduated from Kean University in 1996 with a BA in Early Childhood Education and a BA in English. 1 year after college ended , I married my high school sweetheart! After college, I worked at a Pre-school and then spent a few years as a marketing assistant at HouseMaster Corporate Headquarters. But my heart was still in teaching and I re-entered the profession at the Franklin Charter School that was in Somerset for several years as a First Grade Teacher. In 2001 I came to Elizabeth Avenue School to teach Second Grade. My husband Tom and I live in Somerset with our two sons - Samuel age 8 and Benjamin age 7! Both boys attend EAS with me! My how the time flies... I was voted Governor's Teacher of the Year for Elizabeth Avenue School in 2007! Thank you to my colleagues for selecting me for this honor! I graduated in May 2010 with a master's degree in education. I also now hold a state certification as a Literacy/Reading Specialist and Supervisor. I am using this knowledge of literacy development to increase achievement in literacy in all of my students! Sam (left) Ben (right) My Family
My mission for my students at Elizabeth Avenue is to aim high. We often underestimate what our children can do. I want them to reach as high as they can and they will not be disappointed in their achievements! I also feel that it is our duty as teachers to promote respect as well as a sense of community within the classroom and the school. Students will take control of their environment by aiding me in decision making throughout the school day and year. When a child feels safe and in control, they are then allowed to learn and grow.
