ALERT, ALERT, ALERT.....Students and parents, please work on memorizing basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts at home. Use the fact cards you received from me. Knowing these cards will make your year much easier!!!!

At this point, students should know the following:

1) Basic addition and subtraction facts. Students need to know them. EVERYONE should be practicing.

2) Basic geometric shapes, lines, rays, angles, and line segments

3) Landmarks like maximum, minimum, range, mode, median, and mean

4) Use at least one method to add and subtract large numbers.

5) Basic multiplication and division facts. Use the fact triangles and play games to practice. This is BIG!!! Know your facts.

6) How to complete problems with parentheses.

7) How to read and write decimals to the thousandths and what they actually mean.

8) How to compare decimals (which is larger or smaller).

9) How to add and subtract decimals.

10) How to measure in cm and mm.

11) How to convert between mm, cm and m. (This is still a work in progress so understanding between student will vary.)

12) How to use partial products and lattice multiplication to solve problems.

13) How to estimate a product to a multiplication problem.

14) How to solve "extended" fact questions. ( like.... 40 x 50, or 600 x 90 )

15) How to divide larger numbers.

16) How to use a protractor to measure angles.

17) Parts to a fraction and what a fraction means.

18) How to find a fraction of a whole amount.

19) How to make equivalent fractions.

20) How to add and subtract fractions with like denominators.

21) How to write a fraction to a decimal and a decimal to a fraction.

22) Compare and order fractions.

23) Turn a decimal into a fraction, then into a percent.

24) Multiply and divide decimals.

Science Assignments:

We are now learning about magnets and electricity!!!

OUR  ELECTRICITY PROJECT   WILL BE DUE ON JUNE 12TH. HOWEVER, IT IS OPTIONAL!!! STUDENTS DO NOT NEED TO MAKE A PROJECT.
