Reader's Workshop: Our new unit begins- Increase Comprehension by Reading with Fluency and Paying Attention to Story Elements. This week we notice place words and words that tell when as we identify the setting in our stories. We also identify the problem, predict the solution, identify the solution and see if our predictions were confirmed. Lastly, we will complete a story elements story map. We have a character connection book reading on Tuesday.
Writer's Workshop: Our wonderful authors begin brainstorming ideas for our new unit- Realistic Fiction. We brainstorm events to base our stories upon, create characters, use an organizer to help us include all story elements in our writing, work on an interesting beginning sentence, and finally we will make sure to use verbs in our writing. Word Study: Our word study groups have changed based on the QTR 2 assessment. New sorts are being sent home. Math: Unit 5 begins! We are looking at 3-D shapes in this unit. Some topics covered this week are: points and line segments, parallel lines, quadrangles, and 3-D shapes. Please keep and review home links as they are returned. There will no longer be a study guide sent home before each test.
Social Studies: Unit 3 continues. This week we take alook at a community in Ohio to see how it's changed from ancient times to modern times. Later in the week we will be creating a time line based on the pictures the students have brought in from home!
Science: Solids and Liquids continue! This week our scientists will be investigating how the properties of liquids differ as they compare 7 different types of liquid.
Health: Stranger Danger continues. With the help of McGruff, we learn the differences between strangers, trusted adults, and acquaintances and how to deal with each.
