When reading with your child at home:
* Discuss the title, author, and illustrator
* Point out the parts of the book(cover, title page, etc.)
* Point to the words when reading
* Discuss the story parts(characters, setting, problem, and solution)
* Talk about letters, words, and punctuation marks
* Have your child begin to point out simple sight words
* Have your child frame letters and then the word
When writing with your child at home:
* Make sure your child holds the pencil correctly
* Make sure your child forms letter strokes correctly
* Have your child begin to identify beginning sounds in words
* If ready, have your child begin to identify ending sounds in words
* If ready, have your child begin to identify middle sounds in words
When practicing Math skills at home:
* Practice counting from 1-100, and skip counting by 2, 5, and 10.
* Practice counting back from 20-0
* Practice identify numbers 1-100
* Identify patterns, and making patterns
* Practice identifying the following coins: penny, nickel, dime, quarter
* Many of these skills can be practiced when riding in the car, taking a
a bath, or shopping at the grocery store
