Am I supposed to be reading at home and at school?

Every day each student reads for 20 minutes in class. They are to complete at
least 20 minutes of independent reading outside of class as well. This is a
daily assignment each evening and each day of the weekend. It may not always
be mentioned in the agenda or on homework hotline, but it is an assignment
every day. Eventually the students will be up to about 60 minutes of reading
per day.

When should I be doing responses?

You are to complete at least three independent responses per week. You can
complete them all on the weekend, or whenever your schedule fits best. RRJ
checks will occur approximately every other, or every third week.

--------------------------------------

How long should my response be?

About 3/4 of a page long or more! (It also depends on the size of your
handwriting.) Ask Miss Finelli to give you a "Guide Stripe" along the side of
your notebook if you'd like an exact mark to which you should write.

--------------------------------------

What should I write about?

Use the sheet that you taped into the back of your RRJ to get ideas. This
document is also available in the handouts section of the website to be
downloaded. You can also try using any of the lessons from class to write
about and think about your book. If you have a great idea on your own, give
it a try!

--------------------------------------

What are my responses supposed to look like?

They should be varied--Do not complete the same type of response every time.
They should include analysis of the book, reactions to scenes, predictions,
drawings, connections, use of lessons learned in class (like plot diagrams,
character webs, comparisons, conflict charts, or anything else we practice).
There are photos available in the handouts section of the website. You can
click on them to download and view them.

I can't remember to log my pages! What should I do?

Talk to Miss Finelli about strategies for remembering to log, or for
alternatives to logging pages in the RRJ. She wants you to succeed, so please
ask for help if you need it!
