Independent reading requires more than just snuggling up with a book.
(However, snuggling up with a book is great and post-it notes help
responding feel less like work!) If you write your responses on post-its as
you read, you can tape them right into your RRJ!

Every time you read be sure to log the pages that you read.
At least three times a week you need to include personal responses to your
independent novel in your Reader Response Journal (RRJ). Use the sheet that
you taped in your RRJ to get ideas about ways to respond.

Add some color by drawing characters or scenes from your novel; or by
cutting pictures out of magazines that remind you of your reading. Remember,
when you draw, always include the quote that inspired you, as well as a short
explanation of the importance of the quote/drawing/scene.

Each page must include the Date, Title, and whether the work is
a "Homework," "Response," "Do Now," or "Classwork."

So to recap:
*At least three independent responses per week.
*Log your pages every time you read so that you get credit for your reading.
*Note at the top of each page whether you are working on a "Response," a
"Homework," "Classwork," or a "Do Now."
*Be thoughtful and creative and use the page you taped in the back of your
RRJ as inspiration for your responses!

I can't wait to find out about your independent novels!
