Research- 7th Grade

We will be researching over the next several weeks in our ILA class.  You will be researching and writing about a significant person of the twentieth century.

Completing a research paper is but one of many writing skills that you will learn in seventh grade.  Although you have researched topics before in elementary school, this year’s paper, as it was in sixth grade, is different in that it is also a thesis paper, rather than just researching.  The purpose is for you to prove something.

The end product will be a five-paragraph paper that proves this person was significant to the twentieth century.  In order to do that, you will need to research several sources.  You will need to do a lot of reading from your sources to be able to prove your point.  You must become an expert on your person.

We will be in the Media Center here at school for a few days to gather information.  It is imperative that you be in school on those days.  Additional research time will be needed at home or at the public library.

You will be graded on your bibliography cards, note cards, outline, and final draft.  The rough draft will be written mostly in school using your note cards and must be turned in with the final draft.

The due dates are on the calendar page and on Parent Access.  It is essential that you keep up with the due date for each step of this process in order to have a successful experience.  Be sure to meet all the deadlines to get full credit for your work.  Marking your calendar in your agenda with these dates would be a good idea.
