Due Wednesday January 22, 2008 --- 6th Grade Art Exploration Students in Periods 1, 3, 5, & 6 are learning and celebrating Chinese New Year, by drawing their own Eastern inspired Dragons. Students will follow the descriptions of Eastern dragons, and use their imaginations to create their own original, magical creature. Students will have the option of finishing their drawings in watercolor, color pencil, crayons, markers, or combinations of these mediums.
Due Wednesday January 22, 2008 --- 6th Grade Art Exploration Students in Period 2 are sculpting their own Oaxacan creatures inspired by the folk art wood carvings, of Mexico's Oaxaca Valley. Students will use model magic to create their mystical, imaginative creature. Once finished they will paint their sculpture with metallic paints and brilliantly add color with paint markers and designs.
Due Wednesday December 19, 2007 --- 7th Grade Art Exploration Students are learning about the history of public street art, and the importance that graffiti art has played in pop culture in the past and today. With this knowledge they are designing original name designs and murals, using bold colors, artist designs, and original fonts. These will be displayed throughout the 600’s hallway when finished.
Due Thursday December 20, 2007 --- 6th Grade Art Exploration Students are utilizing their color theory knowledge to create monochromatic still life. Students from all six 6th grade classes have brought in objects from their bedrooms, to build our class still life. The students are practicing observational drawing with this lesson, and using their color theory knowledge of tints and shades to create their final paint palettes. The students are viewing slides of Pablo Picasso’s Blue and Rose Period throughout the lesson for inspiration, and art history knowledge.
Due Wednesday October 31, 2007 --- 7th Grade Art Exploration Students are learning about the Art of Mendhi and Henna design from India and the Middle East. With this knowledge they are designing Mendhi Inspired henna hands for their gold Metallic Scratch Boards. The Designs are quite intricate and are being executed with great care.
Due Tuesday October 30, 2007 --- 6th Grade Art Exploration Students are learning the importance of Color Theory in their art work. We are learning about Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary colors. They are also learning about color systems, such as Monochromic, Analogous, and Color Tints and Shades. With this knowledge students are creating custom color wheel motifs.
Congratulations too all of my students in 6th and 7th grade Art Exploration, for working so hard on your Fire Safety Posters. With all of these excellent, thoughtful entries, we have made it very difficult for the judges to choose a winner!
Due Wednesday October 10, 2007 --- 7th Grade Art Exploration Students are working on black and white pencil drawings of themselves, with color images of thier summer vacation in thier sunglass lenses.
Due Thursday October 14, 2007 --- 6th Grade Art Exploration Students are working on mixed media portraits of wacky hair days, inspired by their dreams.
Due Thursday October 14, 2007 --- 6th Grade Art Exploration Students in period 3 are designing and creating miniture Build-A-Bears.
