Can you name the country in the very south of South America? The one
closest
to the South Pole? I hope you said Argentina! There,
in a region called the Patagonia, with the Andes mountain range and Chile to
the east and the Atlantic to the west, is where I was born and lived until I
moved here seven years ago.
I've always wanted to be a teacher. I even had my own chalkboard as a
little
girl! Having attended bilingual school K-12, my fascination with world
languages started early on. I would study Spanish in the morning and move on
to English in the afternoon and adding on French in secondary school so I
know what it is like to study other languages. I continued pursuing my two
passions--languages and education-- in college graduating as an ESL
teacher in 1998. I then taught third and fifth grade at a bilingual school,
spending
my summers exploring other countries and cultures. I was lucky enough to
travel around Europe twice and in 2000 I took a few classes at Reading
University in England.
It was two years after I graduated from college that I applied to a
teacher
exchange program, was selected and came to New Jersey to teach Spanish. What
a thrill --and a challenge-- it was to teach my native tongue and share my
culture with such a diverse community. I loved the experience so much that I
decided
to stay and I now call East Brunswick my second home. And it was also here
that I
met my husband whom I married last December. My new name is Mrs. Cortes-
Fabrizio but you will find Fabrizio on your schedule. I have been called
Miss Cortes for nine years so it will take some time to get used to my new
name. Feel free to use either!
I am really looking forward to working with and getting to know you.
We are going to have a great year!
Students will make meaningful use of language for real communicative
purposes.
They will experience authentic language in use.
They will be given the opportunity to acquire and to interact in the
language as it is spoken and written in the target culture.
Students will expand their ability to communicate in basic survival
situations. The emphasis will be on realistic interpersonal language use.
Finally, they will compare and contrast the target language and culture with
their own thus further developing insights into the natura of language and
culture.
