My Teaching Philosophy

Every day of our lives, we learn something new.  Sometimes it is significant, while other times it is so inconsequential that it goes unnoticed.  Regardless of its magnitude, the fact remains – we discover new things all the time.  Discovery is an essential ingredient in everything I will teach.  Learning is a by-product of the real results of teaching – successful opportunities is the ultimate goal.  Our classroom will be filled with a vision of achievement.  I will be a positive role model and keep an open mind to new ideas, experiences, and skills.

I believe that children learn in different ways – some aurally, some visually, and others kinesthetically.  The “multiple intelligences” of child psychologist Howard Gardner define an important part in allowing me to cultivate my students as a whole person rather than a learner of a singular subject.  “Effective teaching covers all student’s sensory modalities and learning styles.” (Kincher 1990)

I believe in teaching knowledge, skills, and values through the content core curriculum standards of New Jersey and school district programs.  Together, they provide structure of education for teachers and students alike and represent a common core of skills that are essential to each of the subject disciplines.

I believe in motivating, demonstrating, delegating and debating with my students.  Teachers have an awesome responsibility in preparing our children for the future.  We must prepare a rich, varied, and worthwhile program that meets our own high standards and the high standards of the parents in our community.

Sincerely,
Patti Demko
