book is worth a quiz grade.

Thursday night: Complete the 'Old Stone Age' tab of your Excavation Step Book

ASAP - return your signed Unit 2 Test - make sure you read all of the 
feedback given :) 

Due Friday, November 20th: All 10 vocabulary flash cards for Unit 3 - include 
your full name and a mnemonic for each word!

Due Thursday, November 19th: Vocabulary HO - 6 full sentences using each word 
and an image to match

Special Fairview Note: Monday, November 16th House 4 will have its Fairview 
Parent Information Meeting in the auditorium at 6:30pm! This will be the 
perfect place to ask questions, learn more about the trip and thereafter 
share the excitment with your child! :) 

WoW!       To culminate Unit 2: How we study the past the House 4 students 
have had the privilege of having a historian, Mr. K. Helsby, from the 
Cornelius Low House come into the classroom. He gave a presentation that 
shared how historians explore the artifacts excavated by archaeologists in 
our local Middlesex County. The students really enjoyed looking through the 
magnifying glasses as they each surveyed their own artifact. Thank you Mr. 
Helsby for sharing your wealth of knowledge and local artifacts with House 4!


Ms. Walus will be holding an after school SMART board interactive review in 
the Media Center on Monday, November 9th. - Come by and meet me in the Media 
Center!

the given 5x7 index card 
      * side one = 5 full complete facts with the characteristic/feature 
labeled and underlined
      * side two = create 5 illustrations that match your 5 details about 
your culture 
      * show your full effort. spelling and neatness count!

Picture Day is Friday, September 25th. Everyone will take pictures. Bring 
your completed form and money to Social Studie Class. 

* Prepare for an Organization Quiz (open binder and open agenda) 
- you can prepare by checking the dates of all of your objectives and do nows 
and the completion of all of your homework notes
- check that you Table of Binder Contents is also completed 

Due Thursday, September 23rd (changed from Wednesday, 22nd): 
Complete flash cards for all 18 vocabulary words. Be sure to have your full 
name and a mnemonic (a memory trick) on each flash card! 

**** Special Note **** 
Back to School Night for 6th graders is on Monday, September 21st at 7pm!
It's a chance for parents to follow their child's schedule and meet all of 
the teachers. See you there!

Read the ethnography of Nacirema on packet page 18 and complete the 5 
questions on the Nacirema question handout. 

Due Friday, September 18th:
Bring to class 19 index cards with your full name written on each card. The 
size can be 3x5 or 4x6.

Due Thursday, September 17th:
Part 1: Scan through the pages in your home Social Studies text book and 
explore one of the following civilizations that we will be studying this 
year: Early Humans, Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, Greece and Rome. 

Part 2: 
Complete the "Stepping Back in Time" handout (HO) by following the #1-5 
directions. 
Take the time to decorate your footprint so that it can be displayed around 
our classroom!

Welcome to 6th grade Social Studies! We are off to an awesome year! 

I will give you more than one night for any homework assignment and so it 
will be your responsibility to plan accordingly. Please do not wait until the 
last minute. This is your chance to build strong study strategies and work 
habits. Take advantage of knowing about your homework ahead of time!

During the first week of school your child will be coming home with 
a "Welcome Letter" and a "Welcome Newsletter/ Contract". Please take the time 
to review the expectations with your child. 

Due Friday, September 11th: 
Completed "Getting to Know You" handout (ho)

Due Monday, September 14th: 
Come prepared for to class with all of your S.S. supplies and prepared 
binder. 

* House 4 Agenda Binder (separate from the S.S. binder) will be due on Sept 
14th. This is the binder your child brings with them to every class. 


*** Once students take their school pictures they will be required to wear
their name tags every day. *** Thank you for understanding the importance of
safety in our large school!
