Homework

week of 11/9-1/13 (oh no a Friday the 13th....only good luck allowed)

Reading- On Monday I will introduce the target skill, vocab, and genre for
our new story, "The Fury of a Hurricane". This information can be a little
dry so the story may be a little more difficult for them to absorb. I
strongly suggest that students reread the story on Wed. during any free time
or after school if they wish. Hw on Monday night will be working with the
new vocab, Wb. p. 62, HW on Wed. nght will be working with a targeted skill,
Wb.p. 67/68. Our weekly story assessment will be on Thursday 11/12.

Spelling-- On Monday we will have the pretest of our new words, Hw that
night will be working with the new words, WB.p. 25. HW on Wed. night will
be ABC/123. The weekly test will be on Friday 11/13. Keep up the good work
the last 2 tests were great!

Math- YEAH, the chapter 2 tests were overall quite good, a job well done
grade 5. We have started our chapter on division and the class is making
very strong progress, I am so happy. This week we will work on short
division, divisibility rules, estimation using compatible numbers and teens
as divisors. There will be an open book quiz at some point this week
DEPENDING on their comfort level with the material this week. It can be a
little daunting so we will see how it goes.
Soc. St.- Test on chapter 2 sections 3,4 Friday 11/6.

Lang. Arts- (GR)
We will work on Pronouns as subjects , subject complements, and direct
objects. (approx pgs 341-344)

(WR) Last week we wrote some interesting Autumn Haiku and placed it on our
collages of leaf rubbings. This week the students should have a clear idea
about their intended topic for their "How To" articles.

BOOK REPORT #2 On Friday I will be handing ut the requirements for the next
report. All books for this report must be approved by the teacher on or
before Friday 11/20. The actual report will be due 12/13. This gives them
more than enough time to select a book, read it and prepare their report. NO
LATE REPORTS WILL BE ACCEPTED. (unless of course you are absent)

Science- We will continue our work on plants this week. This is heavily a
review of the same material we covered in grade 4 Science last year. We
hopefully will cover pgs 102-113. On Friday I hope to play a quizbowl type
game to review for the test which will possibly be Mon.11./16, this is a
short chapter.

Religion- We will be working on chapter 5 on baptism. As part of this
chapter we will be doing something in class that will require them to have
information about their own baptism. It should include the location,
officiant, date, godparent names.

Soc. St- Class is currently working on identifying the different provinces
and territories of Canada. They will have a quiz on the map handout on
Friday 11/13.
