May-June
It's hard to believe that we're rapidly
approaching the end of the school year! We've enjoyed traveling this road
together and growing in so many ways. In our Religion classes, we are
completing our study of the Old Testament with a focus on the prophets and
their call to faithfulness and justice. We also will be reflecting on our
faith in action as we explore important themes in Family Life.
In Math, students are applying percent
concepts to a variety of real world settings, including calculation of
discounts, sales tax, and the better buy. Students also will strengthen their
foundation in the use of metric as well as customary measurement units as they
find the perimeter, area, and volume of various geometric figures.
In Language Arts, we have enjoyed our class
reading of Maniac Magee. Students wrote thoughtfully about character
development, conflict, and important themes in this great novel. We are
looking forward to playing student-made board games based on their independent
reading in this final quarter. In addition, students will be giving voice to
their points of view in extended persuasive essays as their last formal
writing assignment of the year.
Finally, in Science, we have concluded our
study of human body systems. Students did a wonderful job with their power
point presentations and we extended our knowledge in this area with our field
trip to the Franklin Institute. Now we turn our sights to the
interrelationships among all organisms within ecosystems as well as the
environmental problems that we face and their possible solutions.
