Welcome to the wonderful world of 3rd Grade!
Our Halloween parade is on Friday at 2 PM. Our classroom party will follow
suit. Parents, please join us for our parade. We can't wait to see all the
costumes. I wonder what the third grade teachers will dress up as...
Check out the exciting happenings in our classroom:
MATH--Students are reviewing addition and subtraction of three-digit numbers,
practicing ballpark estimates, solving number stories, and completing "What's
My Rule?" input/output tables. These mathematicians are also hard at work
practicing their basic facts.
PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD PRACTICE ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION FACTS EVERY
NIGHT UNTIL THEY ARE MASTERED! A timed "Fact Fluency Assessment" will be
given later in November and will count towards their math grade.
Our Chapter 2 test will be on Tuesday, November 3rd.
READER'S WORKSHOP--The third graders are enjoying our spooky Halloween read
aloud from the Goosebumps series! We are zooming in on the main character
and "getting to know her." The students are doing wonderful work
brainstorming character traits to describe the main character and finding
evidence from the book that supports their ideas.
REMEMBER THAT THIRD GRADERS ARE REQUIRED TO READ FOR 20 MINUTES EACH
NIGHT. STUDNETS MUST COMPLETE THEIR READING LOG NIGHTLY. READING LOGS
REQUIRE PARENT SIGNATURES.
WRITER'S WORKSHOP--We are hard at work brainstorming and building our
personal narratives step-by-step. This week we are writing about "turning
points" in our lives and zooming in on small momenets. We'll continue to
work on writing a strong lead using dialogue and onomatopoeia. Then we'll
begin our rough draft, making sure to include dialogue, small actions, and
details. Soon we'll choose our favorite story to publish and celebrate with
a Publishing Party!
HEALTH--Students are learning about unpleasant emotions and how to cope with
stress, anger, and grief without losing self-control.
SCIENCE--We are finishing up our exploration of rocks and minerals. This
week we investigated and observed fascinating properties of minerals,
including transparency, luster, and hardness.
SOCIAL STUDIES--Students took home their "Communities" quizzes from Mrs.
Sharpe. Please remember to sign and return these quizzes.
Yours in education,
Miss Paris ;-)
