The Role of the Student Assistance Specialist

You may be asking yourself: What is Mrs. Hilligus's job? Your child may 
refer to me as the Feelings Teacher. This page will explain a little more 
about what my role is here at LBS. Please let me know how I can be of 
service to you or your child. 

Your Child's Student Assistance Specialist...
*Orients new students and their parents to the school
*Meets with students individually or in small groups
*Provides classroom lessons and activities on the Pillars of Character
*Works with other staff members to provide a positive climate conducive for 
learning
*Works closely with parents to help each and every student have a positive 
school experience

There are several ways your child can see the Student Assistance Specialist.
1. Your child may ask his or her teacher to make an appointment.
2. Your child may leave a request in Mrs. Hilligus's box, located outside 
her room.
3. You may call Mrs. Hilligus and request that she meet with your child. Her 
phone number is 732-613-6876.
4. Your child's teacher may suggest a meeting with Mrs. Hilligus.
5. Mrs. Hilligus may invite your child to a meeting.

The Student Assistance Specialist may help your child in the following ways:
*Develop a positive feeling about him or herself and others
*Develop problem solving techniques and coping skills
*Listen to your child and provide self-esteem building feedback

The Student Assistance Specialist may help your child's teacher in the 
following ways:
*Consult on a student's individual needs
*Help to establish a positive learning environment
*Develop educational strategies through the Intervention & Referral Services
