Light
1. Light is a source of energy.
2. Light is important for three reasons: it lets us see, it gives us heat,
and it helps make food.
3. Some light is natural and cannot be controlled: the sun, stars, and
fireflies.
4. Some light is artificial and can be controlled: a light bulb.
5. Light energy travels at very high speeds. It travels faster than sound.
6. Light travels in straight lines.
7. Light travels through gases (air), most liquids, and some solids. Light
can also travel through empty space.
8. Light passes straight through matter that is transparent, such as windows
and eyeglass lenses.
9. Some light passes though matter that is translucent, such as waxed paper.
10. No light passes though matter that is opaque, such as cardboard and our
desks.
11. Reflected light is light that bounces off a surface and shines back at
you. A mirror reflects light. (smooth, shiny surface)
