| Can you believe it is October already? September was a great month in
second grade, and the students have been very busy in the classroom. Here
are some of the things we have been learning about:
Math- We have been practicing addition and subtraction facts and writing
number stories.
Reader's Workshop- The students are still practicing choosing 'Just Right
Books' and identifying when to abandon books.
Writer's Workshop- We are currently in the process of writing small
moment 'seed' stories. These stories are true stories about things that the
children have done. We are using our heart maps, collages, and feelings to
help us generate ideas for stories.
Social Studies- Our current unit in Social Studies is entitled Communities.
We have been comparing urban, suburban, and rural communities and
identifying changes in those communities over time.
Science- The students have been busy learning about organisms. We have been
examining different habitats and creating food chains.
Health- Our first Health unit is on staying safe, and the studnets have been
reading about and generating ideas for ways to stay safe at home, at school,
and with others.
