Welcome back to school everyone! I hope you are ready for another
exciting year of education as you grow in your love of reading and research.
This year there will be some big changes in the curriculum for the
Kindergarten, first, second, and third graders. With the advent of a new
standards-based report card, students will now be receiving a grade for
technology. Technology will be a major part of our library time as students
work on projects to master technology skills that will prepare them to meet
district curriculum and national standards. Keyboarding skills will be
emphasized as well as knowledge of computers, keyboards, and basic function
keys. Don't be surprised if your kindergartner tells you all about taking
pictures of their classmates with a digital camera! It will be a growing year
for all of us, but your children will benefit as they become proficient with
computer skills--maybe even more so than you!
In addition to our increased emphasis on technology education, all
students will be introduced to a new OPAC system in our Media Centers. Our
new OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog)will be more user-friendly and will
enable students to search not only our own library for materials, but all
libraries in the school district. As always, students will be able to access
the catalog from home--another great feature.
I look forward to many exciting lessons with the students of Memorial and
Bowne-Munro as we begin our new school year. Encourage your children to keep
reading and borrowing some of our many wonderful resources in the Library. As
always, I am here to help make the library experience a memorable one!
