Words Their Way

WORDS THEIR WAY SCHEDULE

Work not completed in class becomes homework

MONDAY

·        Color the back of your word sort sheet, highlight guide words/ letters, and cut out your words.

·        Create columns with guide words at the top and begin sorting words.

TUESDAY

·         Sort your words and wait for the teacher to check them . If your sort is correct, copy into notebook.

·        Next, alphabetize all of your words- not in their sorts.

WEDNESDAY

·        Copy each of your spelling words three times in different colors according to their sort. Write all of the words in the first column three times first, then move on to the second, etc…

·        Look up any and all words that you do not know the meaning of in the dictionary and write the definitions in your notebook.

THURSDAY

·        Write sentences using your words (minimum 10 sentences). Use context clues within your sentence to help the reader understand the meaning of the word.

Example of a bad sentence: He had to run a triathlon.

Example of a good sentence: He was excited to participate in the triathlon because not only was he an expert swimmer, but he also enjoyed running and biking.

·        Practice quizzing a partner and have him/her quiz you.

FRIDAY

·        It’s time to quiz your partner for real! Make sure that you and your partner do not use the same words, talk only loud enough for your partner to hear, put the word in a sentence for them, and sign the bottom of their paper after you have graded them.  Don't forget to hand in both of your papers.
