Thank you for reading every night with your child. It is very important
that you have conversations about the books. Your
child will be bringing home a Home Reading Log along with a book from his/her
bag of books. The purpose of the reading log is to keep track of minutes read
as well as opportunities to talk about the books they are reading. This will
become nightly homework. Please return the books everyday because we need
them in class. The reading log will come home the first day of the week and
is due back Friday (or the last school day of the week). There will be a
direction sheet to fully explain the procedure. On Friday the children will
share their reading log with a partner for encouragement. I find that this is
a very good form of motivation to read more and be able to talk about
reading.
Words Their Way notebooks will be
coming home for homework and practice. It is essential that the notebooks are
returned everyday so we can do the next day's activity.
