Third Grade Homework Policy
Homework is a valuable aid to help students make the most of their
experience in school. The assignments are developed to reinforce what has
been learned in class, prepare students for upcoming lessons, to teach
responsibility, and to help students develop positive study habits.
Parents are the key to making homework a positive experience for the
children. Please make homework a top priority and provide students with a
consistent routine, as well as a quiet homework environment. Continue to
praise and support your child for their success.
Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday nights. Students
will write down their homework every day in their agenda. They are expected
to do their best on their homework. Homework should be neat and completed
in pencil.
If a student does not bring in an assignment on time, a Homework
Bulletin will be sent home. At that time, please sign and return the
bulletin with the completed homework. If there is a problem completing the
homework on time, please send in a note.
Please read and discuss the third grade homework policy with your child.

Description of Homework for Third Grade
ILA Homework
Word Work Activities - Every month your child will receive an ILA homework
calendar. Each night your child will do the assigned exercise working with
the word wall words of the week. Practice the spelling of the word wall
words, as there will be a spell check every Friday. This homework should be
written in the ILA homework book (marble composition) given to your child.
The ILA homework book should be kept home during the week and handed in on
Friday morning.
Writing - Your child may or may not bring home his or her "Writer's
Notebook" to finish a piece of writing that was not completed in class. It
is very important that this notebook is brought back to school the next day,
as we will use them daily.
Reading - Every night students are required to read for 20 minutes. Each
night please fill out the reading calendar with your child. Then, bring it
back to school at the end of the month.
Math Homework
Studying Facts – Mastery of the basic addition, subtraction, multiplication,
and division facts is an essential component of your child’s advancement in
mathematics. A ten minute daily practice and repetition at home will ensure
that your child will be on the way to reaching the goals of speed and
accuracy. You can do this by using flashcards, fact triangles, oral
practice, written practice, computer games, dominoes, and playing cards.
Home Link - Your child will receive a Home Link each night. Please assist
you child as necessary and review the home link with them after it is
completed.
