Homework is a valuable aid to help students make the most of their
experience in school. The assignments are developed to reinforce what has
been learned in class, prepare students for upcoming lessons, to teach
responsibility, and to help students develop positive study habits.
Parents are the key to making homework a positive experience for the
children. Please make homework a top priority and provide students with a
consistent routine, as well as a quiet homework environment. Continue to
praise and support your child for his or her success.
Homework will be assigned weekly. Students will write down their homework
every day in their agenda. They are expected to do their best on their
homework. Homework should be neat and completed in pencil. Daily
assignments will consist of nightly reading, weekly responding, a daily math
home link, and daily review of math facts.
If a student does not bring in an assignment on time, a homework notice will
be sent home. At that time, please sign and return the notice with the
completed homework. If there is a problem completing the homework on time,
please send in a note.
Below is a description of homework that will be assigned:

                              ILA Homework
Reader Response - Each week your child will be assigned a reader response
topic. Your child will be responsible for choosing questions from a list to
respond to. This homework should be done in his or her reader response
journal (expectations are in the reader response journal). Students will
have designated days to turn in their reader response to the teacher.

Reading Calendar – Four nights a week students are required to read for 20
minutes. Each night please fill out the reading calendar with your child.
Then, bring it back to school at the end of the month.

                             Math Homework

Studying Facts – Mastery of the basic addition, subtraction, multiplication,
and division facts is an essential component of your child’s advancement in
mathematics. A ten minute daily practice and repetition at home will ensure
that your child will be on the way to reaching the goals of speed and
accuracy. You can do this by using flashcards, fact triangles, oral
practice, written practice, computer games, dominoes, and playing cards.

Home Link - Your child will receive a Home Link each night. Please assist
your child as necessary and review the home link with them after it is
completed.

Thank you for your continued support!
