The following writing prompt is due this week (week of 2/6):
A student is trying out for the school talent show. The student feels confident and ready for the audition. However, while waiting to go on stage, he/she finds out that someone else is going to perform the same act. Write a story about the student, his/her problem, and what he/she does to solve it.
Hammarskjold Pen Pal letters are due Friday, 2/17. Students must respond to their pen pal using the rubric provided in class. The rubric is also uploaded onto my documents page, along with what the letter should include. Students must hand in the rubric with their letter or 1 point will be deducted from their score. This counts as a writing assignment grade and a homework pass cannot be used.
I would like to proudly announce that classes 5B and 5C have raised enough money for each class to adopt a manatee. 5B raised $25 and adopted "Phillip". 5C raised $35 and adopted "Howie". We should be receiving their adoption certificates in the mail shortly. I am very proud of the entire fifth grade for wanting to help an endangered animal such as the manatee. Phillip and Howie will now join Whiskers, who 5A adopted in the beginning of the year. Way to go fifth grade! We CAN make a difference!
You are now able to order the Scholastic book orders online by going online to Scholastic.com. Our class order code is: HN8GYI have uploaded the reading log- you can find it on my "Important Documents" tab. I have also included a "Home Reading" page which includes what Post-Its should be about and some questions that you can ask your child at home while s/he is reading. Please make sure you are signing your child's reading log before Monday morning because it is considered a missing assignment if it does not have your signature.
Please be advised that there are still Friday Folders in 5th grade that go home every weekend with your child. If it is a long weekend, they will be distributed the last day of school that week. Please be on the lookout for that folder, as it will contain important information for you as their parent/guardian.
