What is appropriate dress for school?
When determining what is appropriate school clothing and what is not, two
things are taken into consideration: student safety and the potential for
disruption to the educational environment. We have decided that crop tops,
spaghetti-strapped tank tops, halter tops, and T-shirts with suggestive or
inappropriate pictures or words are not permitted. Tops or T-shirts should
completely cover the midriff area at all times. Only shorts or skirts that
are "reasonable" in length are permitted. Additionally, pajama bottoms are
not appropriate clothing for school. Backless sandals and shoes or flip-
flops are unsafe in a school environment and are not allowed.
Midland School staff will decide on the appropriateness of student dress. A
parent may be called to bring a change of clothing or footwear if the
administration determines that what a child is wearing is inappropriate or
unsafe.
We appreciate parents' help in assisting children with making appropriate
clothing and footwear choices for school.
How do I get homework for my child if he or she is absent?
1. Requests for homework must be made by calling or leaving a message for
Mrs. Zavinsky in the Main Office NO LATER than 9 A.M. of the day the student
is absent.
2. Homework for absent students can be picked up in the Main Office until
4 P.M.
3. Older students (grades 6-8) are encouraged to find a "homework buddy" to
record and inform them of any assignments missed during their absence.
4. If a student in 6th through 8th grade will be absent for more than one
day, the parent should call Mrs. Zavinsky in the Main Office before 9 A.M.
of the second day. She will ask Mrs. Oles to collect the students
homework from the departmental teachers for the duration of the students
absence.
Can parents park in the school lot?
Parents may only park in the spaces marked "VISITOR." We must have enough
parking available for our staff.
Parents are strongly encouraged to park in the spaces along William Street
if they'd like to park and walk their children in. Many parents use the drop-
off lane adjacent to the school: Just pull all the way up and have your
children exit your vehicle on the right side. We'll take it from there!
How do I report my child's absence?
1. When parents/guardians feel it is necessary to keep a child home from
school for any reason, it is requested that they call the school the evening
before or the morning of the absence.
2. Midland School has a voice mail system that is activated from 4 P.M.
until 8:10 A.M. for parents to leave a message stating that the child will
be absent. Calls after 8:10 will be answered by Mrs. Meyers, our school nurse.
3. All calls regarding student absences should be made NO LATER than 8:30
A.M.
4. Messages left on voice mail should be as brief as possible, but should
include the parent's name, the child's name, homeroom, and reason for
absence.
