ADVANCED PLACEMENT EUROPEAN HISTORY
Full Year Course - 11th and 12th Graders
No Prerequisite - 5 Credits
Advanced Placement European History is a college-level course designed for
those students who have an intense interest in the study of history. The
emphasis of the course is to further refine the student's analytic skills,
examine conflicting historical interpretation, promote historical
scholarship, develop sophisticated research skills, and extensively develop
skill in the writing of document-based essays. The course will trace
international relations in the political, economic, social, cultural,
philosophic, and intellectual development of Europe from 1450 to the
present. Students are required to take the Advanced Placement Examination in
the spring as per BOE policy.
WORLD STUDIES COLLEGE PREP

Prerequisite: 8 or more points on published criteria - 5 Credits
Recognizing students’ roles as global citizens, this course promotes
historical thinking, problem solving, and research skills as ways of
demonstrating knowledge of world history and its relationship to the present,
the effects of economics on global-scale decision-making, and human behavior
in relation to the physical and cultural environment. Instruction and
assessment link with both literacy and technology; in fact, an
interdisciplinary unit focused on genocide as it has occurred over time and
place is featured. Throughout the year, students are expected to make
connections between historical events and their representations in art,
philosophy, music, science, and literature.
