What's new in 2nd Grade?We are very excited to be starting our second novel, Stone Fox. The students and I will be reading this wonderful novel together. We are also creating a summarized booklet of the story to then share with the parents. Please ask your child to give you frequent updates about the story!
In math, we are beginning Unit 7. In this unit, your child will be learning about patterns and rules. We will be building our mental addition stategies and describing patterns in skip counting. We will also be looking at tables, line plots, and bar graphs using real-life data. Please continue to work with your child on memorizing the number facts to 20. You can also utilize Everyday Math Online to play games that help your child memorize their facts through 20.In Science, we are studying the Earth's water cycle. We have also been learning about different cloud formations and weather in general. In reading, your child has been learning how to identify cause and effect situations within a story. We are also looking at drawing conclusions from things that we read. The students are reminded that authors don't always include every piece of information in a story, but we have to use the clues they give us to understand what is happening in the story and to search for a deeper meaning within the story.
**When your child reads at home, please guide them in using these strategies to enable them to have deeper comprehension of the texts in which they are reading**
