                                    Happy Mother's Day!

Both the first and second grades have continued learning about the present, past, and future tense of verbs as well as using the appropriate verb tenses with singular and plural nouns.  They have continued to increase their vocabulary and determine the meaning of unfamiliar words through context clues during our Interactice Read Aloud time.  We have a "Reader's Strategies Tool Box" on the back wall of the classroom that we are filling with "tools" to help us become better readers.   They are continuing to read, make predictions, change predictions, retell, and make connections to the stories they are reading.
Both grades have been working on writing opinion pieces.  They generated a list of things that they like and things that they do not like and have used this list to choose their own topics to write thier opinion about.  They are so proud to read their writing to thier peers!
In mathematics, the first and second grades have continued to solve addition and subtraction word problems and tell time to the nearest hour and half hour.  They have been using multiple objects to compare thier lengths.  They have also begun copying shape designs with pattern blocks.
