Mrs. Wendy Bowes
Mrs. Bowes received her BFA in Art Education from Syracuse University and her
MFA from Queens College and New York University. She has taught all grades in
the public school system ranging from PreK – 12. Mrs. Bowes taught art at THE
DRAWING ROOM an art school she owned and operated from 1982 to 1992 in Wayne,
New Jersey. Many medias were explored and the students ranged from age 3 to
adults. Outside of school Mrs. Bowes has taken her artistic talents to other
areas such as Party Planning and Interior Decorating.
The goal of our art program is to teach our students how to view and
interpret art. Students will explore how to relate to color, line, texture,
shape and form with emotion. Perception, memory, and creativity
are developed sequentially in order to grow in the process of creating art.
Work is based on observation, memory, and each student’s own individuality
and imagination.
The art program is based on the ELEMENTS OF ART (line, texture, shape, form
value, and color), PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN (balance, variety, rhythm, unity,
movement and dominance) and STYLES OF ART (Impressionism, Expressionism,
cubism, Pop Art etc.) Critiques take place after each project so the students
are able to verbalize what they have done to create their own work, as well
as comment positively on the work of others.
Students will learn to understand the nature of art, its purposes, meanings,
and beauty (or if you will, its ugliness!) Art is subjective and is truly in
the eyes of the beholder.
Through the exploration of various cultures and times, we learn ways to
better appreciate others and their art work. As artists, we work from our own
experiences and observations, which in turn teaches us to better understand
ourselves as artists.
