Robust Vocabulary
1. deciphered- If you have figured out a message that is difficult to 
understand or that is written in code, then you have deciphered it.
2. mistaken- If you are wrong about something, you are mistaken.
3. catastrophe- A catastrophe is something really terrible that has happened.
4. fortunate- If you are fortunate, you are very lucky.
5. translate- If you translate something, you say or write it in another 
language.
6. repairs- When something needs repairs, it needs to be fixed.
7. heaving- Heaving is throwing something heavy with great effort.
8. bothersome- When something is bothersome, it bothers you and causes 
problems.
9. din- If there is din, there is so much nise that is hard to hear anything 
over it.
10.dodging- When you are dodging something, you avoid something that is 
coming toward you.

Reading
Lesson 12's story, "A Penpal for Max", written by Gloria Rand, is a realistic 
fiction.  This means it has characters and events that are like people and 
events in real life.  The setting may be real and there are problems that 
characters in real life might face.  The paired selection is about 
postcards, "Postcards From Around the Globe", which shows the writings of 
friends on postcards.

Grammar
Singular and Plural Pronouns
*  A pronoun is a word that is used in place of a noun.
*  A singular pronoun replaces a singular noun.
*  A plural pronoun takes the place of a plural noun or a group of nouns.
Singular pronouns-  I, you , he, she, it , me, him, and her
Plural pronouns- we, us, you, they, and them
