The Place for PLACE VALUE
Place value is one concept that students will continually encounter in math
and use in various applications, so it is important that they understand the
meaning behind the numbers. The activities below are free sites on the
internet where your child can see virtual manipulatives and count them to
practice this important skill. These activities are aimed at first and second
grade students just beginning their exploration of the number system.
Great Place Value Practice on the Internet!
In this game students are given base-10 blocks to count. After counting the
tens and ones, students choose the bubble with the number that matches the
value of the blocks. If they are correct, a friendly dolphin jumps over their
boat. If they are wrong, LOOK OUT! A shark swims up and takes a BITE out of
their boat! A fun way to practice an important skill.
