What is TAG?
The word TAG is an acronym for the Talented and Gifted program in
Sayreville.
What does the TAG Program consist of?
Type I - Guest Speakers
Type II - Teacher Group Instruction
Type III - Projects/Trips
What is Giftedness?
Above Average Ability
Task Commitment
Creativity
All three are combined together.
What criteria is used for testing into the TAG Program in Lower Elementary?
2011 - 2012 (Please note)
***The criteria for TAG participation is currently being updated***
The new guidelines will be written when approved by the Board of Education.
We have added a test on reasoning/analogies and revised the creativity test.
A CSI/IQ test is no longer given to students in Grade 2. This was due to budget restraints.
This has caused the new revisions and recent changes.
The Talented & Gifted Program is for students that are in Grades
2 & 3.
N.J. PASS test score - Grade 2: Passing grade of 65 or higher
Highest grade attainable is 72.
Grade 3: Passing score of 75 or higher
Highest grade attainable is 82.
To be tested, a student must be advanced in both Math &
Reading/Language areas and achieve a combined score or total
listed above. In Grade 3 the CSI(Cognitive Skills Index) is
another tool used. This CSI score is not sent home to the parent.
It is administered in Grade 2 usually in January. If a student
achieves a CSI (IQ) score of 130 or higher, the child will be
tested for TAG in Grade 3.This test may be discontinued in 2011.
Once one of the above is achieved, a parent survey, teacher
survey and creativity test will be administered. Three out of the
five areas must be passed to participate in the TAG program. Once
a student is a participant in the TAG program, a letter of
agreement is signed by the parent stating that all homeroom and
TAG work will be done to the best of the child's ability.
If not, suspension from the TAG Program or probationary period
will be enforced. Once students are in the program, they are
automatically in TAG until exit of the current school. Then, they
must pass the new guidelines to be tested for TAG in their new
school building.
In grade 4, the results of the grade 3, NJ ASK test scores & CSI
test score are used to identify participants.
The combined ASK score must be a total of 500 or above or a CSI
score of 130 or higher are the initiating criteria.
Identification for Grade 4 TAG is completed in the fall at the
Samsel Upper Elementary School.
Are TAG students gifted , yet?
No, they have the ability and potential but must prove themselves
to society.
They have been identified for the program due to their high test
scores.

themselves but not to brag about their talents.
