It all started in the fall of 1979, at Harry S. Truman Elementary School, 5
year old Victoria Eck decided that when she grew up she was going to be just
like her Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Powers. She loved the way Mrs. Powers
would let you wear her slippers, read books with animation, and taught you
through songs and play. During all of her schooling in the Sayreville School
District, she knew she would be back; she knew she would be a teacher.
She graduated Cum Laude from Kean University with a Bachelor's Degree in
Education and English, holding two teaching certificates for P-3 and K-5.
She began her teaching career as Miss Eck, teaching third grade in Eisenhower
Elementary School. That next summer she became Mrs. Haney and was offered a
third grade teaching position at Truman Elemenatry School.
Since her return to Truman, she feels right at home. She has walked the
corridors as a student and now teacher. She understands the importance of a
strong home/school connection. She can now live out her dream, the dream of
being a teacher who reads with animation, teaches with passion, and teaches
through song and play.
Although she is not letting her students walk in her slippers, she's hoping
to inspire them like Mrs. Powers did for her.
