Señora Marcantonio
2009 – 2010 Grading System & Class Requirements
¡Bienvenidos a
mi clase! I know that we will
have a successful and productive year together.
My goal is for you to share my enthusiasm and love of the Spanish
language and Hispanic culture in an atmosphere of cooperation and respect for
others. You can help me achieve this by:
turning off and putting away your cell phone
upon entering class
saying
‘buenos días or buenas tardes’ as you come into the room
doing your homework regularly
(and bringing it to class!)
being in your seat and prepared for
class at the bell
paying attention and being a good
listener at all times
earning as many participation
‘puntos’ as possible
refraining from eating, drinking or chewing
gum in class
not interrupting others when they are speaking
remaining in your seat until I
dismiss the class
showing respect to all
checking my homework website each day
watching and listening to Spanish television and
radio
practicing independently on teacher recommended
websites
using your Spanish both in and out of class!
MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1.
A three-ring binder for all papers distributed
in class and in which you will keep all homework, notes, etc.
2.
A Spanish dictionary to
keep at home to help you in completing homework assignments.
3.
A cover on your textbook if
distributed.
YOUR GRADE FOR EACH MARKING
PERIOD will
be determined using the following scale:
50% reading/writing
This grade will include
varied writing assessments including reading and contextual written grammar
assessments, journal entries, portfolio entries, projects, preparation,
homework assignments (collected and/or graded) and notebook checks
50% speaking/listening
This grade will include
varied oral assessments including participation, interactions/role-plays,
interviews, and presentations of projects and listening assessments
HOMEWORK:
Homework will be given on a regular basis and checked. If homework is
not fully completed, you will receive half credit. If you do not have your homework, after
filling out a ‘pink slip’ which you will sign and date, you will receive a
zero. Homework will count as a double
assessment for each marking period. Each
zero will cause 10 points to be deducted from your homework grade for the
marking period. If you are absent from
class, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to
show me or hand in the assignment you missed.
Homework may be collected and graded at any time!
PREPARATION:
It is expected that you will come to class prepared with all materials
for that day.

CULMINATING
ASSESSMENTS:
Culminating
assessments will be given at the end of each unit and may be a combination of
speaking, listening, reading or writing skills. Value of culminating assessments will be
announced on the day assignment is given.
WRITING
ASSESSMENTS:
Varied writing assessments will be given weekly and may not always be
announced.
ORAL ASSESSMENTS:
Oral assessments may be done in groups, with partners or
individually. These may be impromptu.
PROJECTS AND PERFORMANCE BASED ASSESSMENTS:
One project or performance based assessment will be assigned in each
unit. You will be given anywhere from
two to four weeks to complete the assignment.
The value of the assessment will be based on the combination of language
skills to be evaluated.
PARTICIPATION:
Language is learned through usage, therefore your participation in
class is a necessary and expected element for success. In addition to participation rubrics, your
participation will be evaluated by the number of ‘puntos’ that you earn. Each student will be given an envelope at the
beginning of each class and students who go ‘above and beyond’ the necessary
expected Spanish participation will receive a ‘punto.’ At the end of each marking period, I will
determine the average number of ‘puntos’ students have received, and I will
assign a numerical grade to each student’s number. The total value of this grade, when averaged
with the participation rubrics, will be at least 2 assessment grades.
EXTRA HELP:
I am available before and after school every day unless I have a
meeting. Do not hesitate to ask me for
help when you feel it necessary!
