*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
I expect that each student will try his/her best to adhere to our
classroom guidelines each day. Our rules are as follows:
1. Raise your hand and wait to be called upon
2. Listen respectfully when others are talking
3. Come on time and prepared to class each day
4. Give your full attention to every assignment,
including homework, class work, group work and labs.
5. All work must be completed and submitted on the assigned
day, unless the student is out due to an excused absence -
late work will be accepted one day after the assigned due
date for partial credit only (50% credit)
HOMEWORK
Homework will typically be in the form of a writing assignment or worksheet.
In addition, any unfinished class work tasks must be completed at home.
MISSING & LATE WORK:
Late work must be submitted within one day of the original due date for partial
credit. If answers have been provided in class for the assignment on the date
it was due, it cannot be submitted for partial credit the following day and will
result in a score of zero. Parents are encouraged to contact me if an extension
is necessary as a result of a family emergency or unforeseen circumstance.
NOTE: IN MRS. KANASZKA'S & MRS. ROBERTSON'S PERIOD 2 & 9 CLASSES...NO
LATE WORK OF ANY KIND WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE FIRST MARKING PERIOD!
ASSIGNMENT CREDIT:
All work must be in your own words! Copying, whether it is from classmates or
from another source, is not allowed. Student work must be completed
individually and be written using your own words and ideas. Cutting and
pasting is plagiarism and will not be tolerated on any assignments. Any
sources used to complete an assignment must accompany the work submitted in
the form of a proper list of citations. Our SPFHS policy on copying and
cheating is outlined below. A copy of this policy can also be found in you
agenda book. The Honor Code clearly states the following consequences:
(From the SPFHS Student Handbook)
COPYING:
A person providing homework and the person copying that homework will receive
a zero for the
assignment.
A second offense will result in a zero for the assignment for the person
sharing the assignment and the person copying the assignment. Both Students
will also receive an office detention and parents/guardians will be notified.
PLAGIARISM:
Plagiarism is defined as using the words or ideas of another person as if they
were your own. This definition applies to essays, research papers, lab
reports, and various types of course projects.
In the case of a first offense for plagiarism, the student will receive a zero
for the assignment with the opportunity to make up the assignment with the
maximum possible grade being a 60%. Parents will be required to attend a
conference.
A second offense for plagiarism will result in a zero for the assignment.
Parents will be required to attend a conference. After the conference, the
student may then elect to submit the work in question to the Review and
Verification Committee. The decision of the Review and Verification
Committee will stand.
A third offense will result in a failing grade for the course. In this case,
the Review and Verification Committee will automatically examine the student work.

OVERALL CLASS GRADE
To do well in our class, you must be a well-rounded student. You must
demonstrate effort on all tasks, including class activities, projects, homework,
quizzes, daily responses and review exercises. Test scores alone will not
determine your grade. Homework, daily warm-ups, and class notes will make up
half of the overall grade! In team-taught classes, grades will be based on a point
system. The total number of points earned is divided by the total possible points
for the marking period in order to determine your average.
Graded work will be in following categories:
Assessments
- Tests / Quizzes
- Projects
Class Work
- Daily warm-ups
- Notebook checks
- Partner work
- Independent assignments
Homework
- Daily assignments not completed in class
- Worksheets, study guides, writing and/or reading assignments
designed to be completed outside of class
Participation (for periods 1, 4/5 and 10 ONLY)
- Daily class participation grades will be recorded in class folders
- Weekly participation points will be calculated and sent home
