We only have one Earth and we need to take care of it. We talked about
greenhouse gasses (CO2) and the effect it is having on our atmosphere.
In class we discussed the causes of greenhouse gasses:
1) Increase in human population
2) Less acreage of land (less trees, less plants)
3) Increase of human activities, such as burning of fossil fuels
In class we also talked about photosynthesis and cell respiration.
1) What are these two processes and what organisms perform them?
2) What are the materials needed in order for each to occur?
3) What materials are produced by these processes?
Assignment:
1) Working individually, you will construct a storybook or an environmental
brochure designed for a 5th grader to read.
2) The purpose of the storybook or brochure is to help younger children to
understand the relationship between photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
* Why do plants need animals?
* Why do animals need plants?
* What is the natural cycle that occurs?
* What is the ultimate energy for all living things?
3. Your project not only has to explain the answers to each of the above
questions WITH DETAIL AND EXAMPLES, but you must also alert the reader as to
why they need to be concerned about greenhouses gasses, photosynthesis and
cellular respiration. Explain how their lives are directly impacted by
photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
4. Your project must be neat and MUST INCLUDE PICTURES as well as text that
is IN YOUR OWN WORDS. (Plagiarism will result in a ZERO for this assignment!)
You will be required to hand in the information (websites and source
material) you used for the project.
A template for making a brochure has been posted on this website under "Class
Handouts." If you use it, you must remove all descriptive text that is
currently on the template. It is there to guide you, but it should not appear
on your final draft.
**THIS PROJECT IS DUE BY THE END OF CLASS ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 21st**
