#3 - Internet1 & 2

Go to the classroom website, and use the links to get started.

1. First visit http://library.albany.edu/usered/webeval/ to get an overview of internet evaluations.

2. Then go to http://www.library.cornell.edu/olinuris/ref/webcrit.html and read thru 5 Criteria of Website Evaluation very carefully.  Proceed to the next two websites, skimming thru the useful parts to solidify your understanding: http://www.library.jhu.edu/researchhelp/general/evaluating/ and http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/TeachingLib/Guides/Internet/Evaluate.html

3. Be sure to get the SUPPLEMENT WORKSHEET Before you start.

(A complete list of the links is available on our shared drive)

Complete the worksheet, choosing one website for each criterion

4. Then get a copy of the IN-DEPTH EVALUATION worksheet.  Choose THREE  of the five sites that you already evaluated and re-evaluate in-depth. Use DETAILS and be very specific!

5. Choose one of these three to do a COMPREHENSIVE evaluation. (get worksheet)

Go to the SHARED directory to read the CRITERIA.DOC; You may print it out to keep if you want.

Use all 5 criteria to evaluate one of the websites.  Write the word PASS or FAIL in the gray bar for each criterion.  After you have finished the 5 criteria, write GOOD or POOR at the top of the paper (when you type it, type it at the BOTTOM), indicating why the site you evaluated would be a GOOD site to use for internet research, or a POOR site to use for internet research.

6. Choose a single subject (supposed) research website of your own, as described in class, and complete the same COMPREHENSIVE evaluation.

7. Fill in two copies of the On-Line Comprehensive form, as described above.  Save in your APPS directory as INTERNET1 and INTERNET2.

Extra copies of the Worksheets can be found in the SHARE directory.
