A big thank you to Christopher's father for teaching us about geodes and for
allowing the students to each crack open and keep a geode. The children
enjoyed this very much. We will finish our Rock Notebook and the assessment
is on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, the children will celebrate Valentine's Day as we read about St.
Valentine. The children may bring in Valentine cards for each child in the
class (there are 23). We will also attend the Mission Fair. The children
should bring in a canned good or $1.00 admission fee. Additionally, each
child should bring change in a ziploc labeled with his or her name for games
and raffle tickets. All proceeds go to the missions and the children enjoy
this day very much.
The children will complete a mystery book unit and will complete a
detective
notebook while reading the mystery. Then, children will write a summary,
create a detective and magnifying glass, and finally will write a book
report. Additionally, we are reading A Goose's
Story and will practice cause and effect relationships. The spelling test on
ar and or words is on Tuesday. Next, we will focus on r-controlled vowels
er, ir, and ur. We will read Shirl and Her Tern and leveled readers. We
will learn comparatives and superlatives (-er, -est), helping verbs, and
using quotation marks correctly in dialogue. We will begin to write a news
story.
In Math, we are learning place value to 1000 and will continue to practice
adding and subtracting with and without regrouping. It is
beneficial to memorize facts. Test on 17- facts is on Thursday.
In Religion, we will complete a mural of the Last Supper and are
learning the parts of the Mass. We will learn about St. Bernadette and St.
Valentine.
We will also learn about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln and will begin
a writing project as we study history.
