Announcements

Welcome to February! We have a lot of great things happening this month!

As you may have noticed, I was out sick on Tues. and Wed. of this week so
report cards were not sent out! I had an awful sinus infection, but I am back
on Thursday! I am sending them out then! These will be your child's 1st
report cards, as we do not give reports for the 1st marking period. Our
conferences will be on Feb. 14th, 15th, and 16th. If you have not returned
your conference notice, please send it in as soon as possible. I try to
accomodate everyone, however I have 40 conferences to schedule and I can't
meet everyone's needs. If our scheduled time does not work for you, please
let me know so I can reschedule a time to meet. Thank you!

We will be celebrating 100 Day on February 9th!!! We have been in school
for 100 days! We make a big deal about this number! Your child has a project
that was sent home recently. They are to make a poster of 100 items! Please
help your child gather 100 items to bring to school on Thursday, Feb. 9th.

Valentine's Day is on Tuesday, Feb. 14th. That will be a compressed day for
conferences. So, in order to have enough time, we will have our parties on
Monday, Feb. 13th. Your child may make out Valentine's for this day. You can
either make them or buy them. You do not have to address them to the students
in the class. It is too difficult to pass them out when they are addressed to
each other, that is why I just ask you to have your child write their own
name on them and that's all. In the morning class there are 20 students, in
the pm class there are 19.

You have noticed a paper coming home each day with your children's writing
on it. This is their writing of the daily message. We write a message
together each day, I write on the easel, they write it on their paper and
clipboard. They are performing many functions during this activity: letter
formation, proper pencil grip, capitalization, punctuation, left-to-right
progression, return sweep, and spelling repetition. They are also performing
a task called "far-point" copying. This is simply a copying technique that
they will need in the higher grades. It doesn't seem like much is happening
each day here in kindergarten, but when you break it down, it's amazing!

Please remind your children that ALL NUMBERS AND LETTERS START AT THE
TOP!!! If they can master this concept now they will have an easier time in
the future.

I would like to remind everyone that our newsletter comes out each Monday.
It will tell you what our themes are for the week, and what letter/sounds we
will be learning. Please check your child's folder each Monday.

Please remember you can always email me from this site. Just
go to the email link on this page and send me a note! If you can, please
include your email address. I can only reply if your address is included, as
these emails from my site are "no reply." I will try to answer it
within 24 hours. I look forward to working with all of you!

As discussed at conferences, we are really focusing on good behavior.
Please reinforce this at home as well. We have a much better day without the
constant reminders to follow directions. Our pm class has responded very well
to our "Marble Jar" behavior modification! As we implement the daily behavior
chart in this class I am sure we will see continued improvement! Please
remember to check and sign this sheet every night! Thank you so much for your
support!

I am very excited about our school year! Thank you for checking out my
site! Keep checking often, as I update regularly!

Thanks again,

Mrs. Susan Chioffe
