We are busy blending sounds into words now, especially words with short a,e, i, o and u. We are adding to our sight words and
our list already includes; the, a, my, an, and, is, am, and, said, are, you, to, do, we, it, that, has, and in . We are learning about
marks of punctuation as we read and do our writing. We know about the period, question mark, exclamation point and we
learned that when someone is speaking, the words are in quotation marks. We are learning about action words (verbs) and
naming words (nouns). Put this all together and we are really reading! Practicing our little books each week will really help to get
us there!
In Math, we have finished the chapter on numbers to 20 . We will now be working on time and money.
In the mornings, we are counting by ones and tens and fives. We are also learning to add! We use dominos to add the number of
dots on each side and then count how many dots there are in all. We will do this with dice as well.
We will be learning about more people that helped to make our country great. Thomas Jefferson's birthday was April 13th. We
will learn about Jefferson and Monticello when we learn about nickels. We will learn about the other Presidents that we see on
coins and bills as well.
Earth Day was on April 22. We will continue to discuss ways that we can help our environment throughout the rest of the year.
Once again, thanks so much to Melissa and Trisha and to all of you who send in or come to help. You add so much to the
children's Kindergarten experience!
Our trip to Story Book Land was terrific! The weather held out and was not too hot, the children were very well-behaved and
had a great time. It is so much fun to watch them in a different setting enjoying themselves. Thanks to all our chaperones and,
once again, I'm sorry that everyone that offered to go weren't able to go. It is so wonderful that we had so many volunteers!
Greenhouse is back in action. The "Kinder-gardeners" are already working towards their Father's Day surprise! Thanks again
to Dawn and Trisha and all of our volunteers. They learn so much Science through greenhouse and gardening is a lifetime
enjoyment. I would like to have a little "Garden Party" in June to wrap up our greenhouse year.
As you can see, we are very busy in Kindergarten! As much work and learning that is going on, we still have fun! Play is the
work of a child and they learn so much through play. Getting along with one another, being kind, helping, manners, and feeling
important to a group are all things we need for the rest of our lives. Every individual child is important to our class and I hope
they feel that while they are here. I enjoy all of their unique personalities!
