It is expected that all students will maintain the highest degree of integrity at all times. Plagiarism, cheating, forgery and ‘collusion in dishonest acts’ undermine the goals of Vernon Township High School, as well as, the ‘personal and intellectual growth’ of the student. Vernon students “are expected to bear individual responsibility for their work, to learn the rules and definitions that underlie the practice of academic integrity, and uphold its ideals.”
For this class, no 'cutting and pasting' of any form and from any source, whether or not it is correctly cited, will be accepted. If 'cutting and pasting' is used and not correctly cited, it is an indisputable example of plagiarism. If the 'cut and paste' technique is used and correctly cited, it will STILL NOT BE ACCEPTED as a valid response, answer, or mode of discussion.
There is a ZERO tolerance policy for plagiarism and academic dishonesty in the science department at Vernon High School. Software programs such as “Turn It In” will be utilized throughout the year to validate students’ work.
Consequences (as per the student handbook) will result whether the plagiarism was intended or accidental.
Consequences may include, but are not limited to: failure of the assignment (grade of “0”), mandatory counseling at the school Writing Center, detention and/or suspension.
