I grew up outside of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. In high school, I played
basketball, ran cross country and track. I was also a drum major in the
marching band, played tenor sax for the jazz band, and flute in the county
band. Vocally, I was a member of the Main choir, the Girl’s choir, the
Select choir and the Jazz choir. I also enjoyed roles in the school musicals
Fiddler on the Roof, Grease, and Once Upon a Mattress. A member of the
National Honor Society, I graduated with a Distinguished Scholars Degree.
I then went on to earn my undergraduate Bachelor’s of Science Degree in
Biology from Gettysburg College. At Gettysburg, I was a guard for the
Women’s Basketball Team (The Lady Bullets) and an active member of Alpha Xi
Delta Sorority.
After completing my Masters in Biological Sciences with
a chemistry concentration at the University of Maryland, I worked
on an independent research project through William Paterson University. The
focus of my research involved recombinant DNA technology.
Since I have a passion for athletics, I have coached the freshman girl’s
basketball team for seven successful seasons. My final freshmen team ended
their season with an impressive 17 – 0 record. Last year marked my third
year coaching the Junior Varsity basketball team and also marked the third
season for me as coach of the girl’s JV lacrosse.
I don't think anything can possibly match the 'dream lacrosse season" of
2010, except for the "wildest season ever" with the 2011 team. In 2010, the
Girls LAX team won two league banners, having 9 players all league, 7 players
all-Herald team and the Herald's 'player of the year' was just the iceing on
the cake. We started our dream season undefeated at Disney's Wide World of
Sports Spring Training against international competition and getting a trophy
as a "fab five" team. Our team grew into the tightest family ever as we
continued to literally crush all opposition throughout the regular season.
In 2011, our girl's LAX won yet ANOTHER tournie in the HWS. Numerous (too
many to count) girls won all league awards, Herald first and second team
awards, HWS player of the year awards, MUGS media awards, and the list just
goes on and on!!!!
The fall of 2010 marked my FIRST year as head field hockey coach. I
was 'beyond excited' looking toward the season. We had a bunch of returning
athletes who I predicted would take the county by storm!!! Well, WE DID! We
were 10-4 and went all the way to the STATE SECTIONAL FINALS!!!! It was
awesome. Somewhere along the way, I was voted MUGS Media Coach of the Year.
Who knew???
When not in the classroom, lab or on the playing field, you can find me and
my IPod romping around with my “ZOO”. I have 3
German Shepherds (Sampson, Max and Neo), a cat (Idew Bitty the Kitty),
a red backed terrapin turtle (IT), two zebra finches (Elvis and Pracilla),
and a variety of fish.
It is my mission to positively promote education; to spark the "enthusiasm
to learn" within each student; and to provide the foundation for insight,
knowledge, discernment, and wisdom within individuals as they become
lifelong learners. Developing these skills is essential for the growth,
prosperity, and conscientious decision making necessary for our society.
Well, now you know a bit about me and I am looking forward to learning a bit
about you! So let’s hear it for a fun and successful year together.
