The Weehawken School Board's goal is to include the Internet in the
district's instructional program in order to promote educational excellence
and to provide students, teachers and community residents with a means of
accessing the informational resources available on the World Wide Web.
The use of the Internet shall be consistent with the curriculum adopted by
the district as well as the varied instructional needs, learning styles,
abilities and developmental levels of the students.
All use of the district's connection to the Internet must be in support of
education and/or research. The use of the Internet is a privilege, not a
right and general and specific rules of behavior and communications will
apply when using the Internet. Electronic communications, e-mail, and
downloaded material may be monitored or read by school officials.
Each student and his/her parent or guardian must sign an "Authorization for
Internet Access" before being granted unsupervised use. The failure of any
student to follow the terms of the "Authorization for Internet Access"
policy will result in the loss of privileges, disciplinary action and/or
appropriate legal action.
This district is in complete compliance with the ChildrenÍs Internet
Protection Act (CIPA) which requires the use of filtering and monitoring
software, annual review of policy and procedures, a Board of Education
resolution affirming compliance, public meetings, staff/student instruction,
and additional measures to ensure internet safety and protection for our
students.
SOME examples of unacceptable use include:
• use for illegal activity, violation of copyright or other contracts
• transmitting any material in violation of any U.S. or State regulation
• unauthorized downloading of any software
• downloading any copyrighted material for other than personal use
• using the network for private or commercial gain
• attempts to override any security program
• invading the privacy of others
• publishing, revealing or using another person's account or password
• changing official school passwords
• posting material created by another without written consent
• using a personal account on the school's computers
• accessing, submitting, posting, publishing or displaying any defamatory,
inaccurate, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, racially
offensive or illegal materials
• vandalism of equipment, materials, data of another used, programs,
agencies or other networks ...
