What if my child had a fever last night and it went down with tylenol, can I send them to school the next morning?

No, your child needs to be fever free for a complete 24 hours
without the use of an antipyretic(a fever reducer), such as
tylenol/acetaminophen or advil/motrin/ibuprofen.

If my child has been out sick do they need a note to return to school?

Yes, if your child has been out for 3 or more days it is required
to have a Doctor/Healthcare Provider note. If only 1 or 2 days we
still would like a Doctor's note but we at least need a
parental/guardian's note telling us why the student was out.

What if my child needs medication in school?

It is a New Jersey Law that all medications to be given in
school, prescription and non-prescription(over the counter
medications), needs a Doctor/Healthcare Provider order form and a
Parental/Guardian consent to give medication in school. Forms
are provided by the School Nurse, you can reach her
@ 201-422-6137.

Can my child bring medication to school and self-administer it to themselves?

No, ALL MEDICATION (PRESCRIPTION & NON-PRESCRIPTION) is to be
given to the School Nurse. That includes midol, pamperin,
inhalers, epi-pen ect... asthma inhalers, epi-pens and glucagon
are the only 3 medication allowed by NJ State law that can be
self-administered, given by the School Nurse, or a trained delagate.
Although, medications such as asthma inhalers and
epi-pens can be self adminstered this MUST be indicated by the
Doctor's order form and the School Nurse must review the students
ability to self administer before this is allowed. Even if
student can self administer these medications the School Nurse
MUST HAVE an extra asthma inhaler and epi-pen in her office in
the event the student is unable to administer to themselves or
they forget to bring there medication with them.

What if my child gets sick in school, what is the procedure?

The school nurse (not the child/student) will call
parent/guardian to notify them if the student needs to go home.
The parent/guardian must pick the student up and sign them out in
the Assistant Principal's office on the ground floor.

What if my child gets injured in school? What if a student needs medical attention?

If a student gets injured in school the School Nurse will evaluate,
stabilize and treat your child with first-aid measures. Such as,
control bleeding, bandage a wound &/or apply an ice pack, ect...
The Parent/Guardian will be notified, and if the student is stable
(bleeding under control, alert & concious) they can pick student up
& bring them to their healthcare provider or the emergency
department.
If student is NOT stable (uncontrolled bleeding, unconcious), &/or
we can not reach the Parent/Guardian, an ambulance will be called
and transport the student, with the School Nurse/School
Representative to the hospital of the EMS' choice.
