In third grade, students are practicing their public speaking skills by
performing two Reader’s Theater. This will be followed by a writing
assignment, where the students will create an alliteration based on the
letter that they choose on a holiday of their choice. The students will
create their alliteration using a Rubric. They will also have time to
illustrate and color their alliteration before they share them with the class.

The students in third grade are also enjoying brand new books that were
purchased at the Scholastic Book Fair such as two Lego Books, and the
following series: Big Nate, Captain Underpants, Bad Kitty and Dork Diaries.

The fourth graders listened to a story that combined two holidays and then
sang some silly holiday songs by Alan Katz, who was a featured author during
Authors' Day last spring.

Fifth graders will be solving riddles about famous picture books from the
book Spot the Plot by J. Patrick Lewis. The students will then have the
opportunity to write and illustrate their own book riddles that will be
compiled into a class book that will be added to the library collection.

The online catalog is online so that parents and children can search for
materials at home. A link to the Stony Brook online catalog is located on the
Stony Brook home page under departments or at
