Is homework assigned daily?

Language Arts and Math are two academic areas requiring daily
practice. Homework is only assigned after I have taught the
concept and believe the students have the basic knowledge to
perform the skill. At no time is homework practice given that it
has not been taught prior to being assigned. Homework is usually
assigned Monday through Friday. Howevver, Friday is usually a day for students to
make up any work not completed when it was assigned.

I welcome parental assistance. Together we can work as a team to

is SO important to the mastery of the skills being taught
in school.

Can my child have an extra copy of a lost assignment?

There is a basket in the classroom containing extra copies of
assigned worksheets. Your child just needs to take another copy

The Storytown link (Reading Series) provides the supplemental
resources available for printing at home.

Is extra help available for difficult concepts or skills?

Extra help is available at lunch time Monday through Friday.
Students may request a pass to leave the cafeteria and eat in the
classroom, or they may eat lunch and then come in for extra help
during recess.
After school help is available Monday through Thursday. There are
late buses available for any student who regularly is transported
to and from school. After school help is 2:25 - 2:55. Otherwise, please arrange for an adult to pick up your child at 3 P.M. Students
can arrange to stay after school by requesting extra help 24
hours in advance.

How can my child improve the grade on a previously completed assignment?

No child need settle for a failing grade (<64.) Success is the
goal! Every student can at any time receive a passing grade by
making corrections on a graded assignment. Students are to make
the changes in ink and submit the assignment for an adjusted
grade.

How can I assist my child in preparing for the NJ ASK?

The Sayreville Public School District subscribes to an internet
based program called Study Island.
Each September students are registered by their classroom
teacher. They are assigned a password. Students must take the
pretest prior to working in any skill area. They MUST do this by
themselves. This pretest helps to design an individualized
program for practicing designated areas of weakness. It would be
great one-on-one time with your child! Once your child has
received a ribbon, you can then help to reinforce these skills by
playing one of the many available games.
