Dear 3rd grade families-
Just checking in to let you know that we are finishing up our 3 lit circle
books! We are also learning and practicing for our play about Rumpopo from the
book Replay by Sharon Creech. Students should study lines each night. Next
week we will have our vocabulary test on Wednesday so keep using those vocab
cards to study. For those new to the class, the format of the quiz will be
matching definitions and words as well as multiple choice. We are also
finishing up our partner tall tales and peer editing. They are certainly
tall! Ask your child about the elements of a tall tale. I have tentatively
scheduled the play for May 17 or 18 barring conflicts I have not yet
encountered. Costumes should be simple…more later but just think humble old
timey for now. We have a couple of dogs and an donkey…your creativity is welcome!
Dear 5th grade families-
Math-
We have now completed units 7 and 8-we did 9 earlier and the content for
eleven has also been mastered. We have been learning and applying knowledge
about ratios and rates. We will be working harder to master conversions
between units of measure since that seems like an area of needed improvement.
Please ask your child how many pints are in a gallon, cups in a quart, etc.
We have pretty much finished up our exploration of t-shirt outsourcing and
working to understand the concepts associated with the scientific method.
Today we discussed methodology and the types of variables in an experiment.
Hopefully we will be able to actually start our experiments next week after
puberty week, Pinocchio play, and Wilson ambassador day. We are not done
yet-we're going to keep up the momentum even if we are nearing the end of
elementary!
Language Arts-
The brochures are beautiful and the independent book reports are well under
way. We are writing some fabulous poetry as well and continuing to read our
book The Dreamer. Nice work everyone!
Thanks for all you do in supporting our learning!
