  • HMWK:
1) read the introduction and scan through the character list to familiarize yourself with the text;
2) read through page 57 by Monday – use the provided reading guide to help you through the text – you do not need to write out your answers but you should annotate in text as you go;

  • HMWK: read 78-98; one pager: relate Merchant and Genie to something we’ve learned this year

Thursday 5th
  • discuss reading; Jungian Archetypes to read characters with (idea of synchronicity); roles we play? role of myth is personal definition - we live by these mythic visions of our self all the time
  • HMWK: read 146-177; goto http://www.religionfacts.com/christianity/charts/denominations_beliefs.htm to research the differences between Christian sects – specifically, pay attention to the different views on Mary, Free-will and predestination, and Salvation – xtra credit ½ pager comparing these differences
Monday 9th
  • discuss homework and Virgin of Guadalupe; introduce the story of Faust
  • HMWK: read 177-198; one pager on Jungian archetype in this text
Wednesday 11th
  • discuss one pagers; Liesl; Circus – freaks and magic and miracles and witches and saints; Faust and the Devil
  • HMWK: finish the book. (READ TO 231)
Friday 13th
  • discussion; thesis work
  • HMWK: finish book; essay work – due end of class Tuesday
Tuesday 17th
  • final discussion; essays work; discuss final essay; review sheet handed out – small group work (Library Lab Reserved)
  • HMWK: finish essay – due MONDAY; begin final essay through review sheet – answer all questions and look up all names, themes and ideas – study them in preparation for next class; use the online discussion to work through the questions and clarify your ideas!
Thursday 19th
  • course review: group work on essay
  • HMWK: begin final essay; you will have 60 minutes in final exam period to finish it (SASE if you want it returned)
