Hello!
My
name is Holly Palmer and I am lucky enough to be student teaching in Mrs.
Rider’s class this semester. I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you a
little bit about myself.
I’m
originally from Upstate New York and am not a “traditional” student teacher
since this is not my first career. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in
English and Communication, worked a few years and then went back to get my
Master’s degree in Organizational Development. While I was working on my
Master’s degree, I had the opportunity to work in the public schools in
inner-city Buffalo teaching workshops in conflict resolution and cultural
diversity. It was during this time that I realized how much I enjoyed teaching
and working with students, but I felt that I needed to finish the degree that
I had started.
After
that, I worked in Human Resources for years before I took time off to begin my
family. I have two sons, ages eight and five, who both attend Dennis Chavez
Elementary.
I
decided to pursue teaching as a second career because I truly feel that
education is vitally important for our children and that they must have a
solid foundation in all subject areas in order to succeed in the future. I
feel that my life experience and passion for education can help me make a
difference in students’ lives. I
like to joke about myself by saying that it took me until I was starting to go
grey to finally figure out what I wanted to do with my life! But now that I
have figured it out, I am taking this opportunity to student teach very
seriously. I’m eager to learn as much as I possibly can from Mrs. Rider and
from your children.
I
look forward to meeting many of you at some point and I can’t wait to get to
know your children better while I learn how to teach them to be ready for the
challenges of tomorrow. Thank you for allowing me this opportunity to work
with your children.
Sincerely,
Holly Palmer
